Changes to our Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Register.

At the moment, the Council gives points to housing applications. The new Housing Allocation Policy will use a banding system whereby applicants will be placed into a band according to their need for a home. Each band will include applicants who have a similar level of housing need. The person who has waited the longest will go to the front of that band.
Certain applicants must be given priority for housing and these will include:
           People who are homeless
           People living in poor or overcrowded housing
           People who need to move for medical or welfare reasons
           People who need to move to an area of Blaenau Gwent for a particular reason e.g. to look after a family member
           Applicants who by moving will release an adapted property
           Applicants who have been recommended to foster or adopt children and whose current accommodation is not big enough
           Households including children who are forced to live apart owing to a lack of suitable accommodation
To coincide with the introduction of the new Housing Allocation Policy, Blaenau Gwent’s Housing Register is now online. You will need to visit http://www.blaenaugwenthomes.org.ukto register your application. As an applicant on our current Housing Register you must re-register your application online if you wish to continue to be considered for social housing in Blaenau Gwent.
If you do not have access to a computer, laptop or tablet at home or via a family member you can visit your local library or the Housing Advice Centre to complete your Housing application form online where a member of staff will be available to help you.
